Got out for a few hours this morning to a spot I've hunted before. I wanted to see if I had missed anything the previous times that I was there. After some time with no good signals, I made it to a section where I had previously found some early wheats. Within ten minutes, I had a teens and a twenties wheat. :) I decided to go slow and see if I could pick out some signals that were weak or masked, but repeatable. The first one I found turned out to be a '23 plain Merc. I was surprised to see silver in the bottom of the clod.

About ten feet away, I got another signal that back in the old days when I wasn't so desperate I'd have passed by. It got better as I dug deeper, and I was again surprised to find a '20D Merc on the dropcloth. I measured this one - 8 inches deep. She's bent & a little marred, and it looks to me like the gouge is old damage. At least that's my story & I'm sticking to it.

Another ten feet away, I got a nickel signal and this time instead of a beavertail, it was an old junque julery pin with a missing chunk.

By this time, it had become hot, sweaty, and most of all hungry & thirsty out. I had afternoon plans, so the hunt was over. I went into this hunt with low expectations, and came away feeling really good about it because of the early gorgeous Mercs and the feeling that I really worked hard & listened to the detector to "earn" these finds. Either that or I got lucky! :laughing7:

Thanks for checking out my post & HH to all!

Nice going Neil! 2 Mercs in the pouch is a good day.

I'll bet there's lots more to be found at all the places you've gotten "good signal"
silvers before.

I'm now trying to dig more "iffy signals" at my local places that once produced.
Something to do on those "lazy day hunts"

Nice early mercs and old jewelry. Could be some SLQ's lurking around.

It's nice to know "that spot" still has a few keepers left. . .

The area south should be ripe in the fall
