"In 1731 the French government established a military post (or Poste) along the Wabash River and a fort was completed in 1732. Quebec-born Francois-Maire Bissot, who inherited the title Sieur de Vincennes from his father, founded the fort, and the French and Native Americans who settled in this area used it as a trading and military post. Over two and one-half centuries later, Vincennes (the oldest city in Indiana) is still affectionately known as the Old Post."

Lincoln, Nebraska was inhabited by the Pawnee Indians, who were buffalo and antelope hunters instead of an agricultural tribe. In 1541, Francisco Vasques de Coronado came to Lincoln. In 1803, the French brought fur trading to the area. However, the first fur trading post is accredited to Manueal Lisa. In 1804, the Lewis and Clark expedition went through Lincoln.

Great info! Too bad the very first one listed (Coffee's) is now underwater at Lake Texoma.

Gypsyheart, you are busy! I have the luxury of cruising the internet for most of the day at work, but I couldn't post everything that you do even during my 10 hour days!

LOL....I am just trying to sort out hundreds boxes of files and put them in order....so when I run across stuff that I think others can use in this forum...I have been posting it....I am hoping others will add to the sites, once I jog their memories...It will make a stronger forum when we have alot of info sites available at our finger tips....I also have unlimited internet cruise time ...so at least that makes it easier....
