  • I don't know much about these side links and "conversations", and I just now finding your question. What you are seeing are the remains from candlesticks that are stamped: "Sterling Weighted" It means that the thin silver is actually about twice as thick as heavy grade aluminum foil. The sterling sheeting is pressed into shape and design and then filled with a plastic or usually plaster. I take a hammer and bust the plaster inside and knowing the silver can be razor sharp, I peel it away from the shattered remains with pliers. Anything silver or gold is hard to find, but about once or twice a year I'll find a piece or two. If I can get them for $10-$15 a pair, there is between $30-$60+ dollars in silver skin.
