Anyone in Montana MD ?

My wife to be is from Montana and she wants to go for a trip there and we both detect and just wondering if there are any places that are ok to hunt? Park, public land, etc? I know there are many old ghost town from all the mining there. Best time of the year to hunt? Thanx, JOHN

I'm in Missoula and there isn't much negative about detecting around here, at least I haven't encountered any problems. Just use what I consider common courtesy and respect for people, their property, and their Claims.

I have even been granted permission to hunt on anothers Gold Claim because I called and asked; I even get to keep what I find.

I agree with Mark's comments...

I've never been asked to leave a park (except one that ended up being a local historic area) and never been turned down when I asked to hunt private property. State Land is off limits by law.

Schools and local parks have worked for me but 99 percent of my detecting is on private land.
