I know I'm going to get jumped on for this, but.

These are the detectors that give us a bad name.
How?

Some individual gets one of these things and runs to the nearest park with a huge shovel, and starts digging holes and leaving them, detecting without permission, etc.

Then after ripping stuff up for a few weeks, they get bored when they realize that they aren't going to find that buried hoard of pirate viking treasure in a park in Illinois, leaving the rest of us with their legacy.

Am I making fun of people who can only afford these? No.
I'm just saying the whole thing adds to negative publicity.
lol I just read this...HHHH

I have seen great finds come out the ground with these toys. Better to have some type of back up than none at all eh?

Several years ago While doing a Drained Lake,
Our Finds were attracting All types Of Wanna Be
Treasure Hunters.

A group of Teens showed up & Dropped of a
Teenage Girl with a Detector & They Left Laughing.

Of course I Was Right there to say Hi &
Talk to her.

she said her Grandmother
gave her it. it was the Strangest detector I Ever saw, Had the name of
a Catalog Merchandise Co. on it, But don't remember the name.
Was as Inspireing as if it had the Word AVON on
the side.

Laughing under my Breath, & Crying for
her Under my Breath at the same
time :'( I Pretended to be Enthused for her
And Said the Best thing to do is Dig everything
& I set her loose in a Trashy Spot.

about 30 Minutes later She's all Excited & I Run over.

She's got an antique (if i remember right 14K) 14K Gold ring
& a Ton of trash in a plastic bucket ;D

When her Friends come back
for her still Laughing at the Thought of her
Waisting her time & The Looks of them being Proud
of her when
she showed them the Results Was Priceless.

Gold ring shortly after they left :D

I went to my favorite city park just yesterday. I was there for a short time when this guy walks up to me with a detector that I recognized from Harbor Freight. (I think it sells for $39.00) That it is not what bothered me. He had a "D" handled shovel with him. I remember seeing him watching me several times, guess he figured I was finding something worthwhile since I am there so much. We spoke for a few moments when the conversation turned to his digging tool. I told him that if he was going to use that shovel, I would call the police. I then showed him a copy of the rules and regulations for this state. The tools listed are the tools that are accepted in the state parks that we are allowed to hunt in. These tools are also accepted in my city parks. I showed him how to properly recover what you find. He said he did not have time for that nonsense and left. I hope I don't see him again. I tried to be helpful, but some people just don't get it. Not jumping on you, not so, just finding some truth in what you said. This isn't the first time I have encountered people like him.

Shoot I don't even have time for the nonsense of using a "D" handled shovel. I prefer to just trailer my backhoe with me to the park and use it.

Just kidding.

LOL I would call the police as well if I saw a guy digging my park up with a big ol' shovel of any kind. Of course I would try talking to him first though.

I got a Book from one of the first metal detector inventors.
His company is still in business so he knows what he is talking about.
"If a metal detector beeps, there is metal there".
Now how deep, what kind, are things newer and more expensive machines tell us.

This is one hobby that takes time. If he didn't have the time to do it right, he shouldn't be doing it at all. As is true for any hobby! (And he has yet to learn -- it ain't the size of the tool, but the skill of the user!)

for a park that's huge, for relics in a field, it's okay.
for parks I'd use a Lesche, for fields or woods I use a predator
