Hi,
I am fairly new to metal detecting and just got a new Lobo Super Traq. I have had ok luck with it as far as simply leaving the discrimination down to min. for coin and relic shooting. I have been wanting to do some nugget hunting, what would be a good setting to start with? Seems as if when I put the discrimination up to max it doesnt detect just gold...

First post huh, welcome to TNet. Disc rejects the signals beneight the setting. A max disc setting would not have the detector respond to anything but the most conductive targets, like huge silver things or alum cans and be silent on everything smaller. Nuggets are usually detected with ZERO disc and listening to the threshold change. If you had some small bird shot you could test this. It is the sens. that you can crank up to get it to report on smaller targets and also the use of a smaller coil which is more sensitive to smaller targets.

Good luck.

Welcome to Tnet !

Fine machine you have purchased.

A test garden would be a good thing to practice on...
Tot lots are also a good place to test new machines.

Good luck

Hay Armed Guy,

When relic hunting, most people use just enough
disc to tune out the small iron objects like nails and
barbed wire and so on. That setting should be just
past the iron and below foil.

That way you can still get the deep mini balls and
buttons and the like.

For coin hunting, it depends on whether you want
nickles and deep silver and the harder stuff, like
jewelry.

You can tune all that out and go for the less deep
silver, copper, clad coins and aluminum cans and
so on. That is what lots of people do. Set the disc
up past pull tab and have at it.

For nugget hunting, you need to use the all metal
mode with the LST. The ground tracking only works
in the all metal mode and it is the most sensitive to
small nuggets. There is no discrimination in the all
metal mode. The LST is designed that way.

Hope that helps,

Tabdog
