    Cleaning coins properly

How should coins be cleaned when found? I assume a series of baths with anti-oxidizers of some sort? How to best ID metal content of coins?

    Re: Cleaning coins properly

Are you talking rare coins or clad that you wish to roll up and spend? Typically, rare coins are never cleaned, and if so, only by professionals after they clean out your wallet. Modern face value coins I hit with a green or red scrubby in some water to knock off the majority of the dirt and spend them like so much chump change. Its easy!!!

I just let them soak in water with a little dish washing liquid. then rinse next day.
My friend who drinks a lot of beer, lets his coins sit in pee over night.

if you use the pee method.....err i mean recycled beer....be sure to drink a brand name beer such as budweiser.....generic or flavored sissy beer seems to leave a dark yellow pantia that no amount of scrubbing will remove
