Welcome to Tnet! You may want to state what kind of things you're looking for. If it's nuggets, I'd join a prospecting club so you can access their claims. If it's jewelry, swimming areas are best. If it's old coins, get a pre-60's map of the area so you can see where the older areas are and hunt those parks and schools. You might look into a local detecting club but don't expect to shown all their favorite spots! They may have good info on local laws and what equipment works best in your area though.
