What is the best way to clean coins out of the ground without damaging them anymore Especially wheats?

Soak in olive oil for a month in a ziplock baggie, then a bath (still in the baggie) with dawn dish soap & hot water, rinse, repeat as necessary.These are all the wheats I have dug over the years. It worked pretty well.
