SILVER COINS

I would like to share some info on the recovery of silver coins. Some may already know this. When you find a silver coin in the ground and go to rub the dirt off to see the date or overall condition, you are actually creating fine scratches that are either visible to the eye or to a loop. Collectors and/or dealers are likely to decrease the coin by one grade because it is less desirable with tiny scratches and may lable it as a "problem" coin.
Also old, dug coppers should not be kept together loose in a box (many of you know this already). The first few years, I did this unaware that one corroded coin spread like wildfire, adding little spots to my good coins! The same goes for relics too. Those cardboard coin holders are great.
I hope this helps someone. Dave :D

Actually, I have seen that even cardboard can sometimes react with coins over time. I would recommend those plastic holders if you can get them.
