This is the 3rd installment of my attempt at bringing the Texas MD'ers a bit closer.

Post up pictures of your all time FAVORITE FIND!

Specifics of locations not necessary or expected, perhaps we can all agree a county name will suffice?

The only rule is it had to be found within state lines!!!

I absolutely love finding "headstamps". Where I am they are the quickest and easiest way to date sites.

Keep them! I get a coffee can full, then hit em real quick with a wad of triple aught steel wool, then a quick buff with some NEV-R-DULL wadding.

Then get a 3/4" spade bit - drill out holes in whatever pattern you like on a pretty piece of rough hewn cedar, pop the brass headstamps flush into each hole with some 2 part epoxy and ya got a great little display piece for your curio cabinet, coffee table, side of the tractor shed, etc....

A lot of y'all find pull tabs, where I am, headstamps are the equivalent. No gripes here!

I found two more old shotgun shells yesterday. They are in such bad shape that I couldn’t get any info no them.

The are all plastic (head stamp even) with a thin brass head stamp over the plastic head stump.

They are 12 ga and look to be a field (light) load going by the short shoulder on the brass.

Well....That is a Hard one to pic....I have alot of "Bests"...MY Best Coin...My Best Piece of Jewelry.....But All and All, I think my personal "BEST" find would be the Armour & Swift Meat Co. Employee Badge.

I was told by the Historical Society that it dates back to Late 1800s-early 1900s

Its really not worth anything....But it was one of my First finds metal detecting a few years back, and it was found no more than a 1/2 from the Armour and Swift Factory, Right in the Fort Worth Stockyard Area.

Beside old coins....Finding any History of Fort Worth is exicting to me

I would have to say my Gold and Silver rings....Dug 2 feet and 2 minutes apart......Texas Renaissance Festival Participants Camping / Parking area.

I am from Humble and new to the sport. I had been getting my booths ready for the season and swinging behind the booth in the parking area.

It was at night and I had a mini mag light mounted to my Ace 250 with a pinpointer mount. I was also wearing a head light. I got a good tone and dug up the silver. As I covered the hole and stood up, as soon as my MD hit the soil it pinged again and that was the gold. I though the gold was another silver until I got back to my camp and was able to clean it up in the light...

Im sure most of you have seen it already but this is my best find of all. Harris County.



Found the son of this soldier, he is retired from USAF himself. The soldier was one of five brothers serving at the same time in 1940. The Denver Post did a story on the soldier's mother. She was presented with a 4 star medal for having four of her sons inlisted in WW2 at the same time. The fifth brother joined shortly after. They all survived the war. The soldier, Alfred J. Martinez passed away in 1998. I dressed it up a bit before I sent it to the family in Denver Colorado.




Needless to say but our communication back and forth has been very emotional. I still get a little choked up reading the emails.

I don't believe I will top this one! Unless I find his other tag. That would do it!!!

One of my historical favorites -Musket ball from the Mexican Army at San Jacinto (Archaeology Project). My other favorite find is a group find - we dug 500 silver halfs last month for a landowner along with 2 other containers of coins:

Here's a couple of Houston finds...one from a sports field (1.03 carat/white gold) and one from an old downtown park (~$165 when I checked).

You have no idea how much I envy you getting to work on a TX Revolution survey. I would sincerely PAY and agree to even just be the water boy or something as long as I could see those round balls come out of the ground with my own eyes! I always try and keep my ears open hoping to find that there is a project coming up calling for volunteers. None yet. History like THAT. That's the sole reason I picked up a Metal Detector. Damn, I am so jealous.

So far my best are 1954 S mint quarter and a 1937 buffalo nickel! HH
