How Long Are Your Average MD'ing Hunts?

Of course I like to get out and MD as much as possible but I work full time and have a small child that keeps me busy in the evenings, so my hunts are manytimes on the shorter side in the AM hours when people are all sleeping before work.

My typical hunting time is about 1.5 hours.

What's your average hunt time?

God does it!.....I usally wont go out unless i know i got at least 2 hours...at least once a weekend I get a good 5-8 hour hunt in.

When I first started...I was Unemployed, so it was 7 hours 5 days a week and a 8 hour day on the weekend...the best thign that happened was losing my job at that time...because I had time to actually learn how to metal detect.

Now a days...I have to work thru lunches so i can leave ealry most days.....every half hour adds up

My average time is usually 5-6 hours. I do it on my days off and want to take advantage of that to hunt. Usually up at dawn and hunt when I have the most energy. As someone mentioned above, time flies by so fast.

Ehhh idont know.My first time out was about 3 hours. Come to think of it i spent 40 minutes of that time digging one hole in what was supposed to be a $ coin. came up with a old aluminum pan. Oh well that wont stop me from going back out.

If I have to pay to get in or if the location is far away, then I plan on staying for a while. I'm a student so my time is limited which makes hunts last even longer. For example I was out on a ten hour hunt yesterday from dawn to dusk. It was on the way out that i got a silver ring. Funny how that happens...

Decades ago I used to hunt all day....dawn to dusk and not feel it much. These days it's about half that depending on the weather. If it's cool, I can usually put in 6 hours or so. If it's 98 in the shade and I have to hunt in the sun, I'm wiped after 4 hours. If I have to search in the pounding surf, 3 hours and I'm all in.

I'm pretty variable depending on the time I have. Sometimes just an hour or so, other times 2 to 4 hours. Often an hour or two at one location then move on to another for an hour or two there etc.

Glad I didn't do this when I worked! Retired now so I try for 3-4 hours a day 4 or 5 days a week (or more!) because it is a looooooong winter in Michigan. Have to do a whole year of detecting, in 7 months

Usually 3 hrs at a time..... somedays I go for 5 hours.

But those quick 1-2 hr hunts when only got a lil bit of time usually end up being the best !!!

Try to get out 4 or 5 times a week.

Hey cooper1481 - where you at in Michigan?

I'm in metro-Detroit. Maybe if you're close we can meetup for a hunt?

Depends if I am digging some clad at least...then I hunt until dark. Otherwise, I will run out of steam in 2 hours.

Sounds nice out there! I sent you a PM. Keep me in mind when you get around to doing some hunt in the Summer. I'm always looking for good places to hunt and meeting fellow treasure hunters. :)
