Micro jewelry detecting can be rewarding if you can quickly sift dry sand. Only problem is the dry sand is full of trash too!

I've never tried it because there's sooo much trash up in dry sand and only have an Xterra with 18.75 kHz coil, but after my last 3 trips of stale wet sand hunting (4 hour round trip) I may give it a try.

If there's a volleyball area look there, you know places where people jump, dodge, tackle, play hard. More opportunity for jewelry to be lost! GL. HH!

You're a glutton for punishment using a Gold Bug on the beach! :notworthy: Try an Excalibur and you'll never look back. On the other hand, I'm sure the locals will appreciate you cleaning the junk from "their" beach! :laughing7:

I agree. They're strange too. Some sound scratchy or boingy just like they should. Others sound like a silver half! Usually, the rustier they get the worse they sound but not always. The only thing worse is can slaw. They can mimic gold rings or silver coins depending on size and depth.

:) im still learning the gold bug 2 , so i dig up everything it sounded on . Definitely not good for salty wet sand , it did ok on dry sand . On the end i found all together 1.77 in change , no gold or silver :( , mayby next time , i got this detector mainly for creek beds where i pan for gold , so this was just test how it could by used on beach with the 14inch coil , i usually use the 6 1/2 inch coil in creeks .

I had a gold bug II. Lost it in a fire. I used it for prospecting. You have one big advantage with it. It will pick up the fine gold chains the others will miss unless they are using a good PI. Here's a trick I learned prospecting. The hot rocks will drive you crazy prospecting unless you know this. Might work with trash, don't know never tried it with trash. Here it is. When you get a signal, raise your coil over it. If it gets louder, it was a hot rock. If it got weaker, it was usually gold. May only work with hot rocks.
Most valuable jewelry I have found on the beach were at the point where the high tide stopped before going back out. Good luck, Frank...-

From what I hear Myrtle Beach is sanded in pretty deep right now, so unless you can find some low spots or have a water machine your only hope is fresh drops and those a pretty rare and they sink out of sight quickly.

I'm going to change gears and try micro jewelry hunting in dry sand area with a GB2. The stuff most low freq VLF's and pi's can't see.

Yes I have a small dry sand only scoop. I may not get to try any time soon though. I've been offered a job promotion that will relocate me from GA to LA, a long way from the beaches I usually hunt.
