So we have a little local Farmers Market here in downtown. I get this hair brained idea to show of my equipment, Lost Treasure mags, coin poppin books, and best of all, my finds these past 6 months, including all the trash and junk I've saved. I introduce myself as Dave, and.... what year was YOUR house built? All good conversations about our hobby. Got my pile of business cards, my copy of the ol' code of ethics, my official "Metal Detecting Training Certificate" (LOL)... and a nice pile of permission slips, complete w/ waivers. Most of my contacts told me that their homes were built within the last 10 years or so,:BangHead: but of the 5 that approached me whose homes were built before 1960, 4 of them gave me permission!:headbang: I was up front w/ them too, said finders keepers, none of them flinched. I love being a professional salesman, makes it so easy:laughing7: Best part of all.....didn't have to pay a vendors fee, cuz I wasn't selling anything.

Hey Dave, great idea as so many people go by the Farmer's markets now-a-days. As long as there is a place to sit and you such a really nice looking set up, you are going to get people to come over and check out what you are all about. Sweet, why go knocking on doors if you can get them to come to you! Enjoy the fruits of the neat idea!:icon_thumright:

Thanks to all you guys....
Never expected this thread to get bumped after 4 years....

But yeah, I did really well back in the day, my permissions have gotten few and far between as of late....
I guess I need to go back and drum up more business.

And AARC.... those shorts are long gone.:tongue3:

a good idea to help educate people. A lot of people have wrong impressions about our hobby. One guy I talked to yesterday who was a trout fisherman ask me how would I find the non-magnetic metals? He was a smart person, just didn't know anything about metal detecting and was curious enough to ask questions.

Nice realistic display of the good, the bad and the ugly.

Nicely played Dave,
Sacrifice a couple of hours and get a few permissions in return. Funny, I always figured you for a Pepsi man.

I'm the shy type when it comes to door knocking - but if someone approaches me nicely - I will talk their ear off and then ask
I did an article yrs ago on - "advertising" myself - might give you and others - other ideas - you can find it here

Maybe someone could scan a doctorate from Yale or even MIT and then photoshop it for MDing. :icon_thumright:

Congrats Dave, that's thinking outside the box. Glad to hear it's panning out for you. Did you show the Tattoo?

Tat is getting faded.... my badass pirate with a detector now looks like a Mexican with a weedwacker.

I wish I lived where you live southFLdigger. Man there are lots of expensive real bling beaches to your north and south. Based on your profile I see you take advantage of that fact.
Jealous!

Would you consider sharing your permission slips complete with waivers? I might be able to glean something useful.
