The TRX doesn't even have side scan.
I can scan an entire plug or use the lip that's on the pro pointer for specifically this reason to move the dirt around while scanning all of it at once

(side scan) as you call it is a disadvantage! A good pinpointer reads at the tip. If it also picks up from the side when you stick it in the hole, you have no idea where the target is. Frank...- five star.png

Bull cocky.. "disadvantage"... you know real quick if your target IS in the hole or NOT is what happens... instead of poking around with just the tip... Then it can be used just like ones that only detect with the tip...OR... Slicked around the plug very quickly to find out what side of the plug it's on.. Then pin point on that... its just another capability that when used properly is a big advantage.
It's funny looking at an exclamation point on that statement... It's like 85% of the complaints I read in most metal detecting forums where people blame the device when its user error that's creating the problem

Now think about this. If it indicates from the tip and from the side, how do you know where the target is? It could be beside the probe, or under the probe tip. It actually takes longer to figure it out. Frank...-

While you're busy cleaning the floor with a toothbrush I'll use a mop.
When used properly it tells you very quickly the general area of the target then you can pinpoint exactly where it is.
I'm not much into wiggling around a tiny little tip on every inch of soil just to figure out where the target is I wanna know about where it is very quickly then pull out exactly where it is....
I'm getting the impression you've never used a Garrett pro pointer.
I'll tell you how you know where the target is it changes the intensity of the tone and vibration as you get closer to the target... The tip gives the highest intensity so there's no mistaking
Right about now I'm almost positive I'm speaking to someone who is arguing about something he has absolutely no experience with and I'm calling it an evening.

I think just possible You don't see the light! lol I insert my probe in the hole and move it around. The bright blue light comes on when the tip detects the target. I just reach in and pick it up. Can't get any simpler than that. Frank...- five star.png

What type do you use Frank?.. Harbor Freight trinket? How many detecting hours do you put in on a regular basis ? Have you ever used a Garrett pro pointer?
I understand everybody having their own preference but I don't hear any facts coming from you like you have experience with a certain type sounds like you're just arguing.
Whats the five star signature about?
What do you think about a woman for president?
What's your view on gun laws?
I see the first thing you ever found with a metal detector was a 5 dollar gold coin... That's pretty credible.... I mean incredible .. I guess it's all downhill from there huh.

Most cheap gadgets wouldn't make it through one day with me.. Just saying I don't walk around in parks and nice easy to get to places very often... A lot of time it's mud or mineralized saltwater muck and dirt..ect...ect...
See how long a Harbor Freight $18 pinpointer will last you in conditions like this.. Not even one day

Your a funny guy.. If I were to start posting the frames of artifacts I have put together all from personal finds I would look like I was beating my chest and make those look a bit silly.
The only reason my equipment isn't listed its because I never bothered listing it I can out hunt a lot of people with nothing but a magnet on a stick

Hay Gator, 20 questions !lol
I noticed you don't list your equipment below your avatar.
My equipment fits my needs and it's from several different brands.
The HF has been doing the job for about 4 years never failed to find the target quickly.
I been detecting for over 40 years found just about every type of target there is, even nuggets
while prospecting.
I am basically a cache hunter but I started in back yards and parks as most do.
I take a bit more care of my findings and equipment then you apparently do.
Examples below. Frank...- five star.png

I think this is where my aggravation with you started.. Having your own opinion is great using an! To tell me mine is wrong is just rude especially when it's incorrect.
Geez Frank now you act like you know how I keep my things.. Whatever their guy

Well Gator, I am going to have to say it. The only thing we can agree on are the gun laws Since you are a hunter, and I am a target shooter. Frank...- five star.png

Those who are crapping on GarrettPro Pointer are completely clueless on how it operates or they busted the ferrite rod with their haphazardness. Its a pin pointer not a freaking jackhammer, stop digging with it. I have never once had mine "false" a target. Read the manuals on how to use it properly. As a previous poster clearly said Garrett stands behind their products. Search the forums you will see lots of stories where Garrett goes above and beyond.

To paraphrase good old Tom Nutall from Deadwood, South Dakota.

My Garrett ProPointer masters "bored" talk and quagmire with aplomb. Those that doubt me... suck you know what by choice.
