I am looking for detailed maps of the gettysburg area and outlying areas from the civil war era. Maybe army camps or training fields or just settling areas.

Looking more in the cashtown and south mountain areas or shippensburg/Chambersburg areas

Thanks

Check out Historic Mapworks and the Library of Congress.

You can also check out "The official military atlas of the civil war" ISBN # 0-7607-5044-0 think its a Barnes and Noble book. Close to 25.00 bucks but has hundreds of maps. You might be able to get it through your local library or through Barnes & noble.

try the pennpilot.com sight it is aerial photos from as far back as people could take them, works well with google earth for overlays. May not go back as far as you are looking but the houses shown that are no longer there may be much older than the photos. You just plug in a area code and it shows all the available maps.

You can also try a website called historical Ariels. It shows where old houses used to be. In my area it goes back to 1907 or earlier depending on the area.
