If you want something reliable and that works well, you gotta pay the price. Garrett is good, so is the Minelab. I would recommend AGAINST the Makro pinpointer. A buddy of mine has replaced his 3 times, all have failed within a few weeks.

I'd stay away from the cheaper pin pointers. They are not that sensitive. Maybe 1/2 inch in range. I bought a bounty hunter pin pointer for $42.00. I did better without it, so it sat in the truck. Finally I bought a Garrett pro Pointer and am happy with it's durability and performance.

Quality costs unfortunately, and right now the best is the Whites TRX (still waiting for a comparison against the new Garrett)

Better save your money until you have enough to buy a Whites/Garret/Minelab

I use Garrett. Works like a charm and the company is tops in customer service.

I wore out the switch on my first one in about 9 months (of hard use), returned it to Garrett for a switch replacement, under warrantee of course. They sent me a new one. Can not speak highly enough about them, or their product.

The XPointer can't be beat for the price. $89.

This guy brings to light some valid points. Worth the watch.

The Whites TRX blows the rest away better features much better depth then the Garrett. I think there like $120 and yes stay away from the cheap knock offs you will just through your money away. Reid

I use it all the time, the drawing at the end is to the point and kills all discussions with people that are after reach. Not everybody wants maximum reach, then they can choose the inferior product ;-)

I use, and always have, a bounty hunter Pinpointer. I find it sensitive enough for the detecting I do. Not waterproof and actually cheaply made but surprisingly durable. I have since ordered the garrett carrot but only because of its waterproof fratures.

The pro-pointer works great for me... I bang it around and throw it in the mud a lot. I wouldn't want it more sensitive than it is.

I own both the Garrett and the Makro and I am kind of torn between the two. The Garrett is a quick on and off pinpointer and now waterproof, but the Makro is waterproof and has a sensitivity adjustment which I have found very helpful when locating targets in the hole. By turning it up you get more dept to help locate a target. By turning it down when your close it helps narrow down your pinpoint area.
