Went detecting yesterday after work for a bit and dug up quite the treasure, a million dollar ring. O.k. it's not really a million dollar ring but I can tell you when I first dug it up I was pretty excited! Upon cleaning and further inspection of course it isn't gold and looks to pretty much be costume jewelry so I assume it's probably not worth much more than 2 dollars. Still had me excited for a minute! Not sure what the heck I am gonna do with it.

Doesn't that kill you?

I found what I thought was a beauty and put it in a seperate pocket of my finds bag. Later, when I got home, I pulled little ribbons of gold plate and a mostly disintegrated zinc ring out of the pocket. It had delaminated to pieces. * sigh *

OH MAN... That is SO awesome. I love those costume jewelry finds. It's like prepping for the main event. :)

I certainly feel your pain, Bottlecap! Last year, I was detecting and old house (1807), and up from the ground comes this gorgeous gold brooch with diamonds all over it. My heart was pounding, but after a few rubs with my thumb, the gold started flaking off - just like Charlie's find. Talk about instant deflation of my balloon! :laughing7:

I'd enter it in my local clubs "show and tell" in the "other jewelry" category. Might win :dontknow:
