I like the connection to history, the solitude, enjoying nature outdoors, the technical challenge, and the fact that (unlike most hobbies) metal detecting can pay for itself. Looking through the album of my best coin finds, my memory is often refreshed with the exact circumstances of how I found each of them.

* It really adds a whole new dimension to learning about history. I think it would be a great visual to get kids more interested in our country's heritage/history.
* It is one of the few, if not the only hobby, that pays for itself.
* When I am hunting, I think of nothing else. A reset button for the mind.8-)
* I have met a lot of great people on the MD forums.:notworthy:
* The thought that under our feet is a lot of unexplored territory with treasure to be found.:3barsgold:
* Finally, an addiction that won't kill me!:laughing7:
Best of all, my wife supports my hobby 110%.
