Arm Cuff strap...do you use it or not?

I have an AT Pro that I love but I have never hunted with the strap on the arm cuff around my arm. After a couple of hours of hunting I find that my hand will fall asleep from the weight of the machine and I just wanted to see if anyone else had this problem and if so does using the strap on the cuff help. It just seems like it would get old real fast having to slide your arm in and out of the strap after every plug. Thanks

Never use one. I usually set the detector down to dig plugs and use the pinpointer so I don't see the need of having one.

I use it on the water machine in the surf, not with my dirt fishing machine.

Gotta do what works for you.

Can't figure out who thought that was a good idea to have standard on metal detectors, maybe, just maybe if you work a team with one detecting and one digging and pinpointing. Also theres beach setups that don't really require you to use two hands to dig, seen some videos on that method. So there might be merit.

I never used mine on any machine. I tested it maybe for one minute back in 2010. Never used it since. Useless for this land hunter.

I have found it almost a must on some machines, but not others. If I remember the AT was pretty nose heavy for me which should make it unnecessary or unhelpful to use an armstrap.

If this is a poll then no I don't use mine either. I put the machine down to dig plugs too much to put it on and off.

didn't originally, until I started running a bigger coil for field hunts.

Then I started getting a sore elbow.

Made my own custom strap with heavy velcro and padding. Stays formed in the right shape. Makes it easy to slide in and out of without any adjusting.

Now I wouldn't hunt without it.

Most detectors are balanced well enough to not require the use of one. I do however use one if I swing the Whites Classic ID. It's not as well balanced as the newer models. I keep it somewhat loose so I can slide my arm in and out without having to readjust it.

I use them religiously! I really like the way it "secures" the machine to my arm.

Plug and Pointer method here. I don't use it. I might use it for field searching tho, maybe. I use an ATP and it's front heavy so I don't see the purpose.

Nope. Can stand to take it on and off. Don't squeeze the grip, let it balance in your hand and you won't have the problem of your hand falling asleep. It's like driving on a long trip down the highway on vacation, you find yourself squeezing the wheel for no reason.

I leave the cuff lose and open and slide my arm through it so I can easily pull it back out.

I've been using one for at least the past 30 years. I leave it just loose enough to slide my arm in and out without adjusting the strap. If I do have to set the detector down, I sit the coil on the ground and as I start to kneel, I slide my arm out as I set the rear of the detector on the ground. One smooth motion. I can just about release my grip without dropping the detector. Really helps keep my hand from getting sore.

Thanks. I will try using it a bit in the morning and will also try to loosen my grip a little.

I went out for a couple of hours today and gave it a shot and I just don't think I like it at all. Just too much trouble.

Good question & I have found it useful for beach detecting, that's all. Seems to support the shoulder & arm a bit during searching large areas. I have no use for it in the grass, ground.
