I'd like to keep it below 1K. The XP Deus sounds great, but 1500? Come on!

lots of options then....
AT-Pro, AT-gold, AT_Max, F75, Makro racer, and many more fit your price range.

Id recommend one of the Garrett AT series.

Fisher has a killer deal right now on a f75+ with new f pulse pinpointer and digger for $649.00. This model has boost and cache modes too.

Since you already have a first texas machine it should be an easy transition. The f75 is a breeze to operate.

The new Minelab Equinox might be right up your alley, if you can wait that long.

I hear that the soon to be released Tesoro Cazador is absolutely incredible, if you can find one for sale.

The new minelab is coming .A used deus would be under 1k .I do not think I would buy a single frequency detector seeing how the detecting world is going these days . Multi -IQ / multi freq machines will be the future .Along with updating via internet .

Multi-freq machines have been around for 20 years. Still plenty of single freq machines in use and being sold today.

Being multi freq and also having the ability to select a single freq is something well worth considering.

LOL, well its been in development for long now I figure it must be the absolute game changer in detecting. Can probably detect gold and ignore everything else. I mean since its such a huge secret it's GOT to good, right?

Just ignore me, I'm going crazy with freezing weather and waiting for Minelab's next shoe to drop. :3some:

lol, my budget would be like "I'd like to keep it under $200" . All jokes aside, above commenters have given you some pure gold (metaphorical not literal)machine suggestions.

I have Tesoros and the XP Deus. Tesoros are used in ground that is very hot, like the red VA dirt where you pretty much dig everything, with the exception of nails. The Deus is the great discriminator, and I use it in iron infestations. It has done some parks and has done very well. Don't let the price scare you, mine paid for itself the first 90 days of ownership.

Go used. You can do a lot with $1,000 if you let someone else pay the high retail price and grow tired of it. Just use your judgment about it and you'll come out fine. Metal detectors last a long time if they aren't abused. With 1k you can buy just about any machine you want on the used market. Personally I'd go with a V3i and did. But you could also get a Deus, an e-trac, Impact, MX Sport, DFX, F75 etc. All great machines.
