The excal charge adapter has cost $75 for years, there are no after market generic charging adapters for the excal either. If you accidentally reverse the polarity you will fry the motherboard and a new mother board is $600 plus the labor to install. Spring for the adapter it is a cheap investment.

I absolutely agree with Treasure Hunter - spring for an excal charger. [PS Just replaced battery cable for my Excal and was scared to death that I'd reverse polarity and destroy the Mother Ship errr board.
