7 years +/-. Depends on how far you discharge them and how often you recharge them. 500 to 1,000 recharge cycles is "typical". Whatever typical might be. I have several Lithium battery packs that get a 90 minute recharge every day and they are four years old and still viable. (R/C airplanes).

Lithium outlasts NiCad for sure. LiFe is better still if you have those.

Li chemistry will last 500 to 1000 cycles, excesive heat will shorten battery life, deep discharge caused by leaveing "empty" battery for longer time, or charged one for very long time will cause the battery to discharge threw itselfe to the level it will not be possible to charge it again. In every day use the battery last approximately 2 yeares, then the degradation becomes noticable, the detector battery is not used every day, so it may last around 5 yeares.

Batteries wit higher capacity seems to be less prone to deep discharge, small batteries should be charged frequently.

My Equinox gets recharged on average 2-3 times a week. It's 3 years old now and still going strong.
