    Questions about foreigners metal detecting

Yesterday I posted about wanting to move from my home in America to Australia (or more specifically, work there on a Working Holiday Visa) short term and asked for some tips and expectations. Over the last few years my grandfather has expressed interest in coming along with, mainly so he could metal detect, specifically for gold.

Would he have to attain a visa in order to do this, or would he be able to come on an extended vacation and do so? Does he need some sort of permit/license? Is it even allowed for foreigners to metal detect? Any answers are helpful; thanks in advance!

Great question. I honestly don't know, but would imagine its a lot like here. Open land, occupied land, get permission.
