Should notice be given when a topic is deleted?

I read these forums just about everyday. And one thing I've noticed is the INCONSIDERATE deleting of topics that a moderator or Marc may find objectionable, even if it contains only one negative post. Some of the threads that are deleted are very educational and deserve at LEAST an explanation as to why it was deleted or why it was considered to be against the posting rules set forth when we signed up...

It seems the posts that call people names and curse someone are allowed to stay, yet others are zapped with no explanation or known reason. It sure would be nice to drop an explanation as to what happened to a particular topic and it would probably help keep some from repeating the same mistakes...

It sure wouldn't be any harder to edit a violating post than to delete the whole damn topic..... :x

That's why I just posted the new "Zapper" message. If people help me find those objectionable messages, I won't delete the whole thread. It's not something I "want" to do - but explosives recipes and filthy-mouthed threads aren't allowed. I don't have time to find all the off color messages.

I'm sorry about deleting something you were obviously watching. I need everyone's help in finding those objectionale messages... hence "The Zapper" . I'll make everyone a deal - if you Zap unsavory messages, I'll do my best to save the threads.

Again, sorry about that.

Marc

What Marc said... You have to do what you have to do and sometimes things get deleted that shouldn't. I had a couple deleted way back when by accident, it happens. When we get one or more complaints about a thread, I move it to another area or delete the offending post. I only delete the post if it is an attack or just plain out right rudeness. We can't get every post or read every thread all the time, that is where all of you come in, especially if we miss something. "The Zapper" should help a lot.

btw, nice one-sided poll.... lol... It's like asking if you want $1 or $100 for free, the answer is quite obvious. Sorry you are upset about the thread, hopefully it won't happen again...

If a thread is deleted it would be helpful if you could at least retain the leader and post an explanation why it was deleted. I know this takes time, but in the interest of retaining information this could prove to be a useful (archaeological?) record. Thanks for the consideration.

Yeah - about 50 times as long as it takes for some one to repost the original.

There's no easy way to retain the leader.

I hope if the forum users do a better job of policing themselves, we won't get into this situation.

Here's the general rule of thumb:

If it would be inappropiate at Disneyland, it's inappropriate here! This is and should remain an family oriented website.

It is for "entertainment purposes only".

Help clean this place up, and only those individual posts will get deleted. Zap Em!

Again, I apologize for deleting that thread -

I'm aware of one or two threads Marc has deleted and he has shown good restraint and careful consideration of his topics here. Marc, outstanding job on keeoping this one of the web's best sites and trying to keep us on topic where possible! Even if I do think you're way off politically and socially!

No apology necessary, when someone gets obscene or abusive, it is as you suggest our duty as mindful denizens of the site to make note and not go hog wild into the knee-jerk mode. (snort snort)

I agree... No apology necessary at all Marc... It was just frustrating to come in after watching a topic and go to find it, only to discover it no longer exists, after several minutes of searches... I must admit you guys are usually good about taking control of a bad situation when it's reported, I have used the "Zapper" several times, and have been pleased with the overall response, until I find the WHOLE thing is gone... ;)

Marc...

Don't take my post as an attack or a inappreciation to the media you offer for us all to share our stories, ideas, and the ability to make friends. I DO appreciate T-net and thank you for what you've given us. Now if you'd just send me another subscription to the rag I'd be a happy camper!! LOL

Seriously, Thanks for the board...

My apologies for not chiming in earlier. I was gone for the weekend and had asked Marc to look at my post and do what he thought was necessary to either remove Dirtworm or the whole thread if he felt it was necessary. I was ok with either as I felt it has run it's track. Now if someone else wanted to start some different controversy, have at it, I need a break from all the "advice". wink
