I'm sure alot of us less than affluent hunters have had to make some major adjustments to just afford a day hunt. I live near a river that is heavily used for recreational camping, fishing, rafting, etc. This summer i've been forced to limit my travel due to gas prices so I've resorted to just hunting campsites within 20 miles of home. My expenses now are just buying batteries which I get at the Dollar Store (Panasonic or Polaroid brand) 2-4 packs for $2.00. Can I find that much clad? Well so far yes,and the batteries have been giving me about 12 to 15 hours. Hunting for surface or near surface items is much faster and you still are surprised with some oldies. Yesterday a 1918 wheatie on the surface! Not saying being this much of an Elcheapo is necessary but It can keep you hunting and still enjoying it, and would work on nearby yards, totlots etc. Pack a lunch folks times will get better.
