out and about when your young,with my now wife, we were travelling along a back road as you do, nr her village, and this fire ball sped through the sky (at night), and came down,nr by,but never thought to have a search for it, are they pretty rare

When I was a kid I saw a bright daytime fireball tumbling horizontally from right to left at high speed. Was amazing.

Keep in mind that most times when you think it landed just over the hill or over the trees - it probably landed hundreds of miles away. If you heard sonic booms then you were close.
