Hi to all hire, I'm from Bulgaria and thous days i found some strange rock, and i think that this rock is meteorites.
So my question is - is it that a meteorites , and what kind of meteorites is that ?

is there a geology department near you? they may be able to help identify the mineral.

gosh, there are a lot of rocks out there, hard to know where to start. i would guess if it is "metal" it is really a metal oxide. why do you think it is metal? did you find this with a metal detector?

is it attracted to a magnet? if yes, it could be a hematite/magnetite mixture. try a streak test, rub on un-glazed tile or I use 600 grit wet dry sand paper. red streak will indicate hematite, gray= magnetite. it is usually a mixture so you can get anything between those extremes.

note that pure hematite has little magnetic attraction and gives a very red streak. but in most cases it contains enough magnetite to stick a rare-earth magnet. hematite/magnetite will set off some metal detectors and are called "hot rocks".

give me more clues, i'll try to help. i have a whole table of not-meteorites that people have brought into the museum, a lot of lava lately, sometimes we can id. we can id a meteorite right off but it is about 1 in 100 these days (we have looked at 300 and come across 3). best wishes, don

One way to tell is use a metal detector and see if there is metal in it. If so see if a strong magnet sticks to it. If it does it is either a rock with Iron oxide in it or a meteorite.

A quick and easy test (for iron/nickle) to see if the meteorite has the iron/nickle compound not found in earth rocks is described in a very good book called "Field Guide to Meteors and Meteorites" by O.
