possible metorite sighting

I live in Southern Illinois and on Dec 7 about 1030 pm., I saw a brilliant flash, like millions of camera bulbs going off at once, it appeared to be about tree top level, I heard no sonic boom nor have I found any meteorites. I was wondering if any one else saw it?I was also wanting to know if there was any organizations that tract meteors?

You may have seen a meteor. A meteorite is what the object is called after it strikes the earth. It remains a meteor until then.

There is an organization which tracks reports of meteor sightings. Should be a simple search for "meteor sighting report".

I heard from Steve Arnold from the Meteorite Men show and he said that the meteor was seen in 10 states. Doing more research to see what states saw it.
