We will be taking a trip to the u.p. to see my inlaws, there in kingsford. I would like to find a creek/stream/river to do some pannin/sluicing, can anyone tell me what the rules are for prospecting? Anywhere around iron mountain/kingsford area? Thanks Mike

You cannot pan in a designated trout stream. Sadly 90 percent of rivers in mi are trout streams. Back door stonewall if u ask me

There is No panning in any designated trout streams, natural streams or natural areas, you can read more about the laws under the D.N.R. laws for MI. Pretty much with the laws in MI, legally you can not sluice or pan. The only only area I know of that is legal to recreational pan is on the beaches of the Great Lakes and even then there are laws on how you can and can not pan.
