I've ordered Andy's book and am well on my way to having enough to make the E-track purchase.
I live in Japan and encounter a lot of aluminum. I've read a lot of posts here and feel really confident about locating silver and eliminating iron. BUT! I'm starting to get the idea that when locating really small gold coins (many were in circulation here) I will be forced to dig all the signals I get from aluminum? Will the machine distinguish well between the two if tweaked to the right setting?
Thanks in advance!

When I first got my E-Trac I was digging to many aluminum screw caps, with the Explorer II I had before the caps were no problem because if the ferrous number was 6 or 7 it was a screw cap. With the E-Trac, almost every target has a ferrous number of 12 except for deeper signal. So now I have found if you raise the coil 6" above the signal and you still hear the signal it is aluminum. Coins signals will not be heard after raising the coil about 4 inches. On shallow aluminum you get feed back and digital numbers jump around. Happy Trails 2 U...

Thank you for the tip Cuerno,
Hey, did you read the Andy Sabish book, Mastering the Minelab Explorer and E-Trac? Ive heard it is good. I ordered one yesterday, should get it in about a week. How do you like your E-Trac? Has it really changed your hunting experience and how long have you been using it?
Thanks!

Well Dave I got mine in August 2008, pior to this I got the SE explorer w/slimline coil when it first came out but right away I knew my old Explorer II gave better tones so I sold the SE. Then came the E-Trac and I was lucky enough to win the exact amount at the casino to try one so when I left the casino my wife drove me (gamble all night till morning) from Louisiana to Corpus Christi, Tex. then I drove the rest of the way back to San Antonio. That night I read the manual and the next morning I took it to the park, right away I could tell it had a quicker reset between targets but the real test was when I now was able to beat my partner in silver count. Well for the first time I was able to get as many or more silver or more wheat's than my partner hunt after hunt. Two months ago my partner bought an E-Trac so now we are about even. I have not read Andy's book but I read all the forums almost daily since Dec. 1999 on anything about the Explorer and now the E-Trac. The only thing I have not got into is the Xchange on the PC, I have used the factory coin program with a little of maxing some setting and it hot on silver here is a pic of this past week.
