Well I finally went and picked up an Excalibur, picked it up on ebay for 785 plus shipping. I am really impressed with its performance in the yard as I haven't hit the water with it yet. The bottom shaft had been snapped, cut down and glued[crooked to boot!].The coil got loose and the stem fell out of the lower graphite shaft while i was checking it out. The fellow I had bought it from agreed to make good on the lower shaft[good guy]but before I buy a new one ,is there an aftermarket lower shaft that is a little more rugged? I plan to put a straight upper shaft on it also. How about the short shaft for diving, does the coil pick up on the metal upper shaft since its closer?Does anybody dive using the straight upper shaft? Any info is appreciated,Thanks Bob

Check at KellyCo. They have a better shaft design that moves the electronics and battery to the rear for better balance...also a guard for the knobs. Total cost is about $130 but probably worth it.
