I have the older Blue Excal 1000 and it is a few years old and only had to be sent in once for a leak in the coil.

I wouldn't pay much for the first gen sword/seasearch model but ones after that (blue) seem to be just fine.....I have two of them. I borrowed an Excalibur 2 (green) to try it out before I bought my second one and it didn't seem to be any different in performance than mine so I didn't "upgrade".
