Is this the correct way to lock the Excalibur cable ?

Just received a new minelab excalibur, so I have a question:

is this the correct/safe way to place the cable ?

the cable between the coil and the lower tape wrapping is about 8-9 inch and is on a short side, its done to keep the coil stable when its on the bottom.

is it safe to keep it fixed like that ?

should the cable be fixed in another way ?

I'm not planning to use the detector until the next weekend so please advise me how to change it.

I'd leave a bit more slack in the cable at the coil end. You'll be flexing that joint and it will put a strain on the cable at each limit. You need to coil it fairly tight if you're using the dive rod and have everything shortened for that type of hunting but if you're just beach or surf hunting, it isn't necessary to wind it that tight. You don't want to have the cable flopping but a tight wind doesn't improve detecting IMO. I run a hip mount so I want all kinds of slack on the other end to keep from straining the connections at the control housing.

Leave more slack at bottom you do not want stress on connector...

Leave enough slack to be able to completely pivot coil forward and backward with out it being under any stress at all

This is the best thing I've found for my sovereign and excalibur machines. And out the wrap up higher to move weight upwards

I use small tie wraps inside pieces of aquarium air hose strip then tightened. The air hose protects the cable...

I just use the velcro straps. I find it easier when changing coils as much as I do. Another comment on the OP's question....I wouldn't use duct tape. It can leave a sticky residue that makes a mess and attracts sand and dirt. Some brands might have some metal properties to it that could effect the machine. You might want to swing a loop over the roll to see. My experience with duct tape is that it doesn't hold up well in hot or wet conditions for very long.
