2) I have never found it to find anything an open screen multi-conductive couldn't find.

Thanks Jason. I"ve pretty much arrived at the same conclusion and jump over to Quick Mask when the threshold tone nulls.

I find it very useful in iron trashed site, such as by fire rings at the beach. To me, it gives my ears a break over all the various "machine gun" of tones you get in other modes. It's best with a small coil and with a very slow sweep speed. Give it a try and see if you like it.

I've only toyed with TTF?
I do have an iron infested site and small coil. I'll give it a try.
