There's times shallow water hunting when I'm going in and out of water at the tide line.
The 800 is so nose heavy, I can feel the weight of the water when I swing from water to wet sand.
Even though it's only an ounce of two of water, I can feel the weight of it.
Drilled some 1/8 inch drain holes in my coil cover.
It also helps clearing the sand from the cover.
I slosh it around in the water and let it drain to clear sand.

I had an idea to do that too, but never got around to trying it. I do know the cover will pack up with sand from water hunts. How well do your holes keep the cover cleared?

Works well.
It makes a large difference.
Removed cover after beach hunt today.
No sand.
I drilled 9/64 holes.

Another thing to do is drill a HOLE at the bottom of the lower rod to release sand and water. Coming out of the water you would be surprised how much water stays in there. Ive done that for years.

Ya know Deep, never thought of that, after all, the purpose of the cover is to protect the coil itself against possible nicks, abrasions etc. Sometimes the simplest solution is the best. I do believe you just offered us one.
