On the beach between Pass Christian and Long Beach, there are reports that Spanish coins have been found along the shore, presumably being washed ashore from a shipwreck off the coast.

And, they might have been brought out of a shallow burial at an inland site by the back-waves of some of the serious hurricanes that hit there over the last 250-300 years. There are legendary tales of buried pirate treasures all along the Mississippi coast.
