There is a book "Ghost Towns of Montana" by Donald C. Miller...1981 that the kids gave me about 10 yrs ago. I've visited a few of the towns in the book during the past 25 yrs that I've been detecting. I've been to Southern Cross many times til it was demolished 10 yrs (?) ago. Personally, I've found many small settlements or just a cabin or so by just driving in foothills where I visit.

Montana post offices and post masters by a fellow named Lutz 1986, is a good source. Many closed down and mail was handled elsewhere. Only problem with this book is only 300 ever made. I got lucky and found one free of charge.

I also found some old issues of ghost town quarterly from phillipsburg. Not sure how long they were in business. Nice reading if you come across any.
