These aren't exactly my top five, but they are an interesting mix:

Battleship Potemkin (Russian Expressionist silent film)

Fairinelli (Italian. beautiful.)

Waking Ned Devine (Irish. Hilarious)

Le Diner Du Cons (French. Literally, "The Dinner of A$$holes." This one is a belly-buster and a half.)

Mr. Freedom (Joint French/U.S. project as I recall. Perhaps just French. Pure satire, and in reality not very funny because it is still painfully valid today. Unfortunately, remove the "Red Communist" banter and insert "Muslim" it seems. Banned in both countries in the 60's shortly after it was first shown in France)

Some great suggestions! I've seen a few of these (and liked them!) ...others have been added to my "must see" list. Great input by all! -Ben

Yeah, its a trilogy. The next one is Day Watch and I forgot what the third one is named. I think I read somewhere that Day Watch is in the UK, and the 3rd film will be in the US.
Its very much worth the rent for the special effects alone. Its a very ambitious project that I hope gets pulled off in style.
