Not the funniest movie of all time. I give that to another Mel Brooks movie, Blazing Saddles, with The Producers a close second.

Time for more coffee.

Well, Jeff, I do feel bad for you, having lived an isolated existence.

Mel Brooks’ “The Producers” has seen a long life on both screen and stage. The original film, released in 1967, starred Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder. About 30 years later, it was suggested to Brooks that he make “The Producers” into a Broadway musical. It opened in 2001, starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. It closed after 2502 performances.

The Broadway success led to a remake of the movie, again starring Lane and Broderick, released in 2005.

My favorite sequence, regardless of which version I am watching, is “Springtime for Hitler”. It is, by far, the funniest mocking of Hitler and Nazis ever made. I think the later version with John Barrowman playing the singing Nazi is a bit better, but Hitler in the original was a riot.

Time for more coffee.
