One of my most precious and prized metal detecting finds...this Civil War 1st Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Militia uniform button, found on April 28, 1985!

I detected this at a local elementary school playground that was being renovated. The bulldozer had taken off several inches of sod, and the button was another 4 inches down.

The backmark reads: " * R & W ROBINSON * EXTRA RICH " I've included pics of a non-dug specimen for comparison.

I love this hobby, and I prize this scarce and historic piece of Massachusetts military history!

Happy Hunting To All!

Larry G. :)

Hi Will,

I haven't found many items over the years that relate directly to Mass., but my button was a thrill to uncover!

I also dug a 1788 Massachusetts half cent, in typical dug condition. The date and features, however, are plainly visible. I'd love to dig more Mass. finds....they fascinate me.
