Totally agree it is an 1877. Needs to be cleaned with toothpicks dipped in warm hydrogen peroxide. Take your time. This is one coin you DON'T want to mess up on. But it really does need some tender loving rejuvenation. Will probably take about an hour on each side. Just accept that slow is better for this coin.

Reminds me of the 22 Plain Wheat I found in the take a penny jar at a 7-11 a few years ago...I sold it for 900.00 two weeks after I found it, the guy had it slabbed, and it graded EF40...I was spot on with my price..

Congrats on your find.

Yes you have the mother of all IH cents. I have only found one key date coin and sold it ... I still regret it.

Fantastic coin! I'm presently in abstention period of 5 months since winter has started and looking at this makes me want to cry!! :'( will have to wait till May to get a hunting again. :'(
