This is what I consider to be my best find to date, it is a short sword 18" blade and has a four inch gold inlay on both sides in which are stamped markings of identification.

From the research I have made so far it would be a french sword dating late 1600'S early 1700's and would have been commended to a high rank officer, it has an iron crest outlay below the gold inlay (sword standing up) that indicates it being commended, I did not find all the info on the markings but it could also identifie the officer in question (would be very cool).

As you can notice on the picture the gold is of a very deep yellow which indicates it's closeness to purity.

It was found on a sandy beach on the shores of St.Lawrence River approx. 25 years ago.

Not being very well equipped for this type of photography the details are not very visible but the markings on the gold inlays reads as such, "XX IANXMOVM XX , nice piece of history.

Have you ever thought of opening your own museum? This sword is museum quality.....and the cup.....I'm going to look
and see what else you have posted. Great, great, great finds. (You relate that the two finds I have mentioned were found
several years ago. Are you still hunting? Hope so, friend. You have done well.)

They will definitely go to the museum after I'm gone I have already made the necessary arrangements. Except for a few good friends not many people had seen these finds I'm a greeny to internet and decided to expose them for the pleasure of history fans such as myself, as for hunting yes I still am, I admit I have not been doing it excessively but have been doing it for 30 some years, actually thirty- six years ago I made my first hunt but was for a short period partly owner of a detector with a friend, he bought back my part not to long after our purchase and I bought my own a few years later.

I am now in the dead period of TH'ing our winters last from November to April or May so that gives me only a five month (approx.)period to practice and so far have been doing 5 or 6 outings every year but I have recently retired and am anxious to take lots and lots more time to enjoy it.....as a matter a fact I have befriended Santa and He is supposed to bring me a new detector after the new years... we do eachother favors once in a while if you know what I mean....lol. HH

You will be practicing for me?.....that I would like to do myself but will leave this pleasure to you for now, I will be making outings to my cabin most of the winter and make believe I am living in 1600's or something ( except for modern compfort belongings (would not leave that behind would I ?)) thanks for your comments, take care and God bless.
