My own yard!!!

Hi everyone. New member here but I've been reading and learning tons from all of you on this site and for that I thank you.

My wife bought me a BH Platinum for my birthday and I'm having a blast with it. For some back ground, we've traced our property back to the 1850's when a tavern originally stood where our house is now. The tavern ran for years until a fire burned it to the ground in the early 20's. the owners at that time rebuilt it and ran till 1930 when a new road was built and the owners had the whole place moved to take advantage of the better business opportunities closer to the new road. The foundation sat empty till our house was built on it in 1948.

And the really good stuff.....




Love how that silver shines in the hole! The 1921 Walker is a D mint mark. And I'm assuming the damage is possibly from being in the fire? It would be a really cool story if it was. And the 3 IH were all found in the dirt crawl space under our kitchen, found when we remodeled/ replaced the floor. They date 1862, 1865, & 1897.

Really what I've learned in the past year which may be old news,the best finds are in your own back yard!

I guess I should add that I almost filled a bucket with junk while digging that stuff in last month. Lol. Ever since that first Merc popped out I've been obsessed and have spent the past month roaming around my yard. This is an awesome hobby! I forgot to mention the handful of wheaties so far, oldest is a 1909.

you will never find a wheatie older than 1909 : it is the first year of issue.look on the back for the very small letters 'VDB'. they are rarer,if it has an 's' on the front and 'VDB' on the back you are very lucky indeed!!! have you tried to find the privy pit yet?what a FANTASTIC place to learn how to use your first detector.

Thanks Keith. No mint mark on the 1909 that I can see and it's in too poor of a condition to see the VDB. Hopefully hunting my place doesn't spoil me but good news is I've got 2 other places to hunt nearby. Both are relation and both are on the 1862 map I found on this site. I hit one of those sites a time or two and have a few wheaties and a '42D Merc to show for it. Good luck to you.

Welcome to participating in/on/with all the rest of us on Tnet. You have an amazing spot to hunt! You have other amazing spots with permission to detect and dig! Unfortunately, you are hooked just like the rest of us so enjoy but do not forget the one who gave you your first detector! She's a good one and certainly listened to her man and about what he was interested in.

I know nothing about your machine but it might have a selection of coils that are available and if optional coils are available then a small DD coil would possibly be a good addition to the arsenal. That type of coil works very good in areas of heavy trash as it will locate the 'good' targets from among the junk metal (but who knows maybe some of the junk metal is really good stuff like an old Colt revolver). Anyway just a thought. Have fun, spring is on its way....................63bkpkr

I wonder whats under the house! Awesome finds. My yard yielded a few wheaties and some neat little trinkets but nothing like what youve found.
