I Dug This Recently
This brooch was found with Civil War Confederate Buttons.
Perhaps it belonged to one of the camp "ladies"

B.H. I would like to know the story that this piece could tell. Was it unusual for a soldier to carry a piece of his wifes jewelry or other items ?

It is my understanding that it was commonplace for a soldier to take a piece of his wife's or sweetheart's jewelry off to war.It made him feel close..it's still done today..are you familiar with "love tokens" that Civil War soldiers carried or wore?? We have dug a couple of those also.
