Let's See The 1500 and 1600s Coins Dug In The US

After seeing the post by button king of his 16th century Lizzie it really got me wondering. How many hunters in the states and Canada have found a 1500s coin? I have a good friend here in Maine that found a cut 16th century silver and he's found a Jeton as well(I know a Jeton isn't a coin.) so I wanted to see some of these. I figured I'd add in the 17th century coins cause I think it'd be a pretty small list if not....and I love seeing these early ones. So bring em on guys and gals. You've seen mine so I won't bore you with those again. Since they still haven't really gone away lol.
I wish I could change the title to include my Canadian brothers. Of course I want to see yours and apologize for the title

Haha, I like this post!

Here's mine that I've found, that are in my personal display.

View attachment 1466003

Two William iii half pennies (1695 and 1699) and a Carolous II 1/2 reale Cob.

Other I have donated to museums are another Carolous II 1-real Cob, a James II half penny, and and a third William iii half penny.

Great post buddy

Killer coins my man. That cob is very eye appealing

Here's my 1600s coins, I'm lucky enough to have 5. All found on cape cod, MA. I found my first three or four years ago with my $200 whites coin master. I didn't even have an ID on the coin until last year when I came across Jim Bailey and his amazing research and found out that my mystery coin is a 17th century commasse of Yemen. Since then I have found four more. What I believe to be a 17 century one reale cob? Two William III (one I believe to be counterfeit because it isn't round) and a liard de France. That's an impressive collection of early coinage.

No coppers yet but got these late 1600s cobs earlier this year. That second one has been to hell and back though. Maybe a counterfeit as well

I’d really like to add a few more cobs to my collection. Such a cool little piece of silver

I found my second 1600's coin a week ago Sunday. It's a 1695 - 1698, Type 1, William III Half Pence that is well worn but does have a nice patina. I think it is a 1697. I have been metal detecting for 22 years. The first ten years were in coal camps in KY and TN. The next ten years was on Civil War sites. I have only been digging colonial for two years but these are the best detecting days of my life. There is nothing like digging colonial. 22491618_10210256895922423_5026100691947674427_n.jpg 22490217_10210251820795548_3123638376120604369_n.jpg

Donnie reminded me of a couple other recent finds from a trash pit. I found a Charles II farthing (1672-1680) as well as two jetons from the 1600s

Love this thread and love being able to contribute and update my finds. These are the six silvers that Ive got that are undoubtedly 17th century. May have a few more cobs that are and definitely some coppers but the coppers are all toasted

Here's some of mine. The little square silver is probably 1702-1710. IMG_1553.jpg Plus a toasted Maravedis from a known shipwreck. IMG_0785.JPG

1540 Silver Penny Found In WNY

Found near an old foundation from the 1840's. This coin is a silver penny no date but because of having no date it was the first one minted and is an 1540 hammered silver penny. The 1541 was the first one dated.

Correction ?

Found near an old foundation from the 1840's. This coin is a silver penny no date but because of having no date it was the first one minted and is an 1540 hammered silver penny. The 1541 was the first one dated.

Maybe I am wrong but you guys can correct me .. The coin may be 1560 and not 1540.. Please confirm the date. I know you guys can confirm the right date..

Thanks JIm
