Now on display at the Louisiana History Museum.

I have found plenty of WW1 dog tags , and this one is the same. It is obvious that this one is made of aluminum, not lead. Aluminum is NOT civil war era. It is still a cool find , but certainly NOT civil war. It is important to be knowledgable about our finds. Sorry to be the bearer of the news, but it is better not to disseminate inaccurate information.

It is lead based alloy. Not unlike the material known as "potmetal," used to make some some Civil War buckles. So although I don't throw out your assessment, with the obscure unit information attached to it, I doubt your guess to some degree.
