Frank Sinatra had nothing on me in 1991 for "It Was A Very Good Year" for me. I began THing in August 1979 in L.A. under treasure-meister Roy Roush, and I have a certificate! In 1987 my wife and I returned to NYC to a coop 1/2 a block from Central Park so CP became my main hunting grounds during the '90s. At that time I didn't know it was illegal to TH there and the only signs in park entrances were aimed at bicycle riders and I was never approached by a park Ranger. Occasionally, I would see other detectorists singly and in groups. So I was in the park 28 days in 1991, usually for up to 5 hours at a time. Below is a listing of my finds as I entered them in my calendar diary. I didn't always specify what I found so the list could have been longer. I took the color photo 6 months after I started with a White's COINMASTER 6/DB. Only the photo with silver coins represents some of what I found which continued to be repeated every year mainly with my trusty, ol' Teknetics Mark I Ltd. Oh, happy days!

I say we should get an enormous hoard of detectorists and just hit CP in one day! If any park rangers ask we just tell them it's legal now. When they see the number of guys in the park they'll HAVE to believe it...lol

No, I cashed out many years ago, every year. I used to have many coffee cans filled with clads, got a coin cleaner and went to the bank and I sold my gold/silver jewelry on 48th St., the diamond district.

You'll need lol! First, they'll ask you for ID. Second, they'll ask you to leave the park/. Third, probably issue summons. Fourth, maybe confiscate your detector. Chances are you'll deal first with a mounted Ranger/policeman who'll call for motorized backup to haul equipment away. After I found out THing was illegal, when I used to spot 'em from a distance, I would make myself less visible by sitting on the grass along with hundred others. One day, I saw mounted cops leaving deep hooves cavities in the mud and I gave chase yelling at them to stop. They galloped a distance and one of the 2 left the female cop behind and I confronted her and told her how I felt about them enforcing the regs while they were guilty of doing more damage than I ever could with just my fiberglass probe. I wrote an article about it ("Official Damage") for Treasure Facts magazine (14 articles).
