True Story, (this is a little song I wrote about an all time favorite find) 1914-D's are worth a good bit more now days, we found it around  1976  (included a little work demo mp3 if you care to listen just click the link below) wish I had a picture but we never took one of the coin. Lyric Below. The picture is of our Late Father, Edward Joseph Roth.

1914 D
(Kirk Roth)

I've always loved a treasure hunt Dad had a machine and he made it fun
thought someday we might find a pot of gold
One day it made a sound hard to pinpoint he said, "easy now I think it's a coin
but when you're a kid back is something hard to hold.
Well, I nicked the edge diggin' it up, never forget I dang near cussed
handed it to him and he rubbed it on his shirt
He said. "it's old and Denver mint" rubbed a little more and then he grinned,
said, "Son it's a good one," and I asked, "what's it worth"

A 1914 D
wheat penny he believed,
was worth a pretty penny
round a hundred and fifty at least
maybe two without that mark
which Dad wasn't mad at me
"you did good Son" he said,
how bout that 1914 D

We took it to a gun, knife and coin show didn't wanna sell just wanted to know
if we ever did 'bout what should we ask
we met a man there with a big display, said he had about ever coin ever made
as he looked at ours through his jewelers glass

A 1914 D
wheat penny he believed,
was worth a pretty penny
round a hundred and fifty at least
maybe two without that mark
which Dad didn't tell on me
"we did good Son" he said,
how bout that 1914 D

later on down the road hard times came and my Dad had to part with that piece of change
I hated to see it go but I wasn't mad at him, that 1914 D after all, it was made to spend

Yea, I've always loved a treasure hunt, Dad had a machine and he made it fun
thought someday we might find a pot of gold

Hey, Kirk, what's up? :)

I must admit, I am a big fan of your written lyrics, too. You definitely have a talent, buddy.

I hope you write some more Country hits in the future! :)

Well, the Hag is my favorite all time singer, but lookin' like him I've never heard. I'll take it as a compliment. It dont get no better than The Hag, Willie, The late Johnny Cash, and Waylon :'(

Rd2nowr,

That pic in the avatar isn't Merle

Believe it or not that looks like Dale Sr.
I think the posted photo is Kirk's Dad.

Thanks vpone,

So, what're the deepest coins you're finding with the explorer and excellerator coil. I've been reading up on 'em. Does the excellerator coil really give you that much more depth?

hey kirk,

i have had some very good success with my 16.5" excellerator coil

it has definately found coins that others have missed at average depths of 10-15 inches, and it makes other 'iffy signals standout more at regular depths, i also found a dime pushing close to 20 inches in an area that is routinely flooded - that is not typical though

for average, everyday use, not the best coil - but for a cleaned out site with little iron or debris left, where you're trying to get every last coin - the best coil going

hope this helps & welcome to tnet !

Re: 1914 D

Thank you Mona Lisa,

This song is a tough pitch as far as getting it recorded commercially, but it is special to me. I've written many many songs, been fortunate to have a few that have actually made me some good money, but it's songs like 1914 D that keep me grounded.

Who knows maybe one day it'll get recorded by some metal detecting artist, or be partially used in a commercial or something. :D

Peace Be With You. and I appreciate your kindness!

Man, I'm not a fan of country... but that was the coolest song I've ever heard!! Thanks for posting it, and the pic of your dad...
I wish my dad would spend time with me like yours has. It'll always be my biggest regret...
