Here's a coin to make your heart jump out of your chest. Found this one at a local school, about 4" deep. The scan doesn't do it justice - it would be VF+ coin without the corrosion. Oddly, and I know this is hard to believe, but this is the second one I've found. Got one in PA when i was a teenager and immediately sold it to buy a new detector. Life is weird sometimes.

Up for sale on Ebay Sunday 27th at 2pm pst.

That is a FIND! I have found 2 1909's this year, one is a vdb but no mint mark...there is a scar where the mint mark should be. The other is a plain 1909. Congrats on the Key wheat!

Welcome to T-Net and keep the finds coming!
hope all your goodies are worthy of posting.

BTW... that coin would go MUCH more than VF without the corrosion.
Truly a beautiful coin.
Thanks for sharing.

Hey I think I have one of those in a safe with a bunch of other coins. I think mine is just a 1909 VDB...so the S is the real keeper, yes?

Congrats on an amazing find. I am surprised you found one in PA. IN all of my years of detecting on the East coast, I dont think I found an "S" or "D" coin dated earlier than WWII.

Yeah, it sure made my day. As for finding 2 of them, I guess you just never know what might pop up. I have yet to find a large cent in 28 years!

Way to go. I found a 1909S in California a few years back. It is in beautiful condition. When it came out of the ground it came out heads. I was almost afraid to turn it over, I did and no initials.

Re: 1909 s vdb

Nicely done! I've never liked Wheaties, but boy would I like to dig an '09S VDB or a 22 plain! Looks like you've been at this (detecting) a while. I've only been detecting a few years, but I've only found a handful of Wheaties, and yet 2 LC's! One of them was pretty much just a copper disc, with only the faintest wreath visible on the reverse. The other, an 1830 with EF details. Anyway, that's interesting that you've found two of these rare coins already. Best of luck!
